Fear of Success

Written by the K.Co. Team

At the heart of our mission lies the essence of fostering unity, resilience, and compassion among believers. However, as we journey through our spiritual paths, we sometimes encounter an unexpected obstacle: the fear of success. This apprehension might seem paradoxical, but it's more common than you might think. How do you navigate the windy road of achievement?

Success, in the eyes of the world, often brings with it attention, responsibility, and change. For many, these can be overwhelming, and they might question their worthiness or ability to handle the new challenges. At times, the fear is not of the success itself, but of the expectations and demands that accompany it. Do you fear public exposure, being vulnerable, or feeling just plain exhausted?

Kristin Colino, our esteemed owner and disciple of Jesus Christ, has often observed this sentiment among her mentees. Through her insightful one-on-one and group sessions, she has recognized that the fear of success can sometimes hold individuals back from realizing their full potential. This realization led us to ponder: How can we, as a community, address this fear and help our fellow believers to not only embrace success but to see it as a blessing from our Lord?

The Bible offers solace in Philippians 4:13 (ESV), "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." This verse doesn't just allude to the capability to overcome, but also to the strength to handle victory. It reminds us that our accomplishments, big or small, are not solely due to our efforts but are manifestations of God's grace working through us.

As part of our mission to provide a mentoring perspective, we encourage everyone to redefine their definition of success. In a spiritual journey, it is not just about financial or workplace achievement but also about the growth, the lessons learned, and the relationships forged. It's about how our trials bring us closer to God and how we utilize them to serve Him and others better (James 1:2-4 MSG).

Dear Lord,

Fear is a liar. Scripture tells us the principalities of this world are led by the father of lies (John 8:44 NIV). But we know you are a good and faithful God who is just, merciful, and sovereign. Help us to walk humbly and surrender to your omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence. You never leave us or forsake us; and, You promise that if we abide in You, You will abide in us (John 15:4-5 ESV). Without You we are a lost generation seeking idols and coveting what is material and temporal.

Come, Lord Jesus, and help us! We cry out to you in these times of anxiety with thankful hearts and ask for Your will to be done. We are confident You have defeated death, hell, and the grave. Why do we continue to assume the battle is ours to fight? We turn our weak and sinful bodies over to You and wait in joyful hope of your return. Allow the Holy Spirit to intercede on our behalf with the right words, reflecting our primal groans. Just like the Israelites in the face of freedom from slavery yearned for the comfort of the familiar in the land of Egypt (Numbers 11:4-6 NASB), we take Your provision for granted. Get us out of our comfort zone and call us to greater faith, wise discernment, and relentless obedience.

Our gratitude seems too insignificant for the grace you have bestowed on us. Your free gift of eternal life is waiting for us when we embrace the life, death, and resurrection of Your one and only Son Jesus. The Gospel is the “good news” of yesterday, today, and forever. You are still our God, the one true hope for tomorrow.

Love,
Kristin

Jesus Calms the Storm

A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat,… Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!”… He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” (Mark 4:37-41 NIV)
